CULTURAL GALA
Lira University Cultural Gala took place on Saturday 3rd of November, 2018.
The theme was ” Culture and Beauty with Purpose in the fight against HIV/AIDs.”
The main participants were the students of Lira University classified in their ethinic groups as stated below;
-Acholi Community
-Lango students
-Banyakole – Bakiga
-WestNile students
-Nkoba Zambogo (Baganda)
-Teso students
We had a number of activities which were: Local Anthem, Drama, Traditional fashion show and Traditional dance.
The results were as follows:
1. Acholi

4. Lasa
5. Lubba
6. West Nile
There are several factors that contribute to the spread of HIV/ AIDs which are; Ignorance, Illiteracy, Poverty, Drug & alcohol use, HIV/AIDS stigma, Cultural factors, lack of access to maternal services, wars, Immigration and many others. But it is possible to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.
As Lira University, we devoted our Cultural Gala to sensitize and educate the community on HIV/ AIDS for a better Uganda.
