Lira University Teaching Hospital

Lira University, is not only a center for academic excellence but also a Beacon of healthcare innovation and service delivery. At the heart of its health services is the Lira University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), the first university teaching hospital in Uganda. Established in October 2018 and officially inaugurated by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in November 2019, LUTH serves as a critical resource for both the University community and the surrounding regions.

Comprehensive Medical Services

LUTH offers a wide array of medical services, catering to the diverse needs of students, staff, and the local population. The hospital operates a 110-bed facility and provides both outpatient and inpatient care. Outpatient consultations are available Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and on Saturdays from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM. For emergencies, a 24-hour Accident and Emergency Unit is operational daily.

Specialized clinics are scheduled throughout the week:

  • Monday: Surgery
  • Tuesday: Gynecology and Internal Medicine
  • Wednesday: Mental Health and Pediatrics
  • Thursday: Internal Medicine
  • Friday: Mental Health and Urology

Additionally, the hospital runs HIV/ART and TB clinics from Monday to Friday, emphasizing its commitment to combating prevalent health issues in the region
