As one of Uganda’s newest and fastest-growing Public Universities, Lira University continues to attract students from across the country and beyond. With its expanding academic programs and commitment to innovation, the demand for quality housing and accommodation has been taken into consideration

Off-Campus Accommodation

The vast majority of Lira University students reside in private hostels and rental units located in nearby areas such as Barapwo, Ayago, and Railways. These hostels vary widely in terms of price, security, hygiene, and amenities. Monthly rent typically ranges from atleast UGX 200,000 per semester depending on proximity to campus, water and electricity access, and whether the rooms are self-contained.

Many students appreciate the freedom and affordability of off-campus living, especially when they can share costs through room-sharing or group rentals.

University Initiatives and Stakeholder Involvement

The University Administration, through the Dean of Students’ Office, works to sensitize students on choosing safe and reliable accommodation. The Guild Government also plays a vital role by engaging with landlords, mapping hostels, and addressing student concerns through regular dialogue.

Some of the ongoing efforts include:

  • Inspection and registration of private hostels to ensure minimum standards.
  • Community engagement with local leaders and security personnel to improve student safety.
