Lira University staff have every reason to smile as the construction of the multibillion shillings Administration block is almost getting done.
The Project, titled, “The Construction Completion of the Proposed Lira University Administration Block”, with UPDF National Enterprise Corporation Works and Engineering (NEC) as the contractor, is expected to provide office space to several staff including the University Visitor(H.E The President), Chancellor, Council Chairperson and Vice Chancellor.
The project is expected to cost a total of shs13,815,480,793.
At a consultative meeting on 30th April, 2025, the Management Team headed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, the need for early finishing of the building was emphasised. The meeting was held at the Public Health Board Room.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng noted the building will solve the problem of office accommodation and other services. “If Government releases more money, then we shall get the building handed over to us before the end of the year. The contractor needs money for the works to progress steadily to completion,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng explains.
A site meeting on the same day convened by the Technology Consults Ltd, the project consultant, agreed that the contract agreement be extended for 6 months so that the contractor completes the construction.
The University Secretary, Augustine Oyang Atubo revealed that they had asked the Ministry of Finance for a supplementary budget to offset pending payments to the contractor.
