The Vice Chancellor, Lira University, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng has advised students leaders to always consider peaceful means of resolving conflicts other than violence.

“Let’s avoid confrontations or wars with the Management of the University. Consultations and round table discussions to find solutions to problems should be preferred,” Prof.  Ogwal Okeng said while presiding over the Swearing-in and Handover Ceremony of the Guild Government leaders on 6th May 2024.

He advised students leaders to always approach offices for consultations as they are part of the University Management Team. “Job opportunities are here, we recruit best performing and well behaved students into the service of the university on completion of the course. We have about 15 former students working here as staff of the university,” he says.

Meanwhile, the Dean of Students, Ms Emma Okite advised Guild Leaders to live exemplary life as they are the role models to the rest of the students at the campus. “Avoid HIV/Aids while here, concentrate on books so that you pass exams with flying colours for a better future,” Emma advises.

Okite noted that true leadership is not about control or power but service and empowerment respectively. “Leadership is not about manipulation but it is about inspiration. Inspiring people is the highest form of true leadership,” she observes.

Okite cautioned the Guild leaders to be kind with respect, listening to others ideas. “I implore you to work as a team and avoid rumour mongering and conspiracy” she says.

The Guild President, Ayena Moses promised to promote unity and team spirit amongst the guild cabinet members. “With joint efforts, we shall move this great university further and steadily,” Ayena asserts.

He promised to establish a Guild Canteen service at the Campus and plant several trees. “We need more security lights on most roads to fight elements of insecurity,” he says.

He noted that his government prefers consultations with the management of the University in handling students’ welfare and pertinent issues.
