In a historic joyous mood, Lira University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng has today (1st October 2025) flagged off the University Football Team to face its counterpart, Gulu University for the University Football League held in Gulu City.
“Yes…either the Beacon Team wins or Gulu loses…..is our slogan and prayers,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng fragrantly announces to the thunderous yelling of players and fans.
The team will play its first-ever match opening the way for an action-filled adventure into the competitive university football. Players had intensive preparations, and together with the VC and Dean of Students, Ms. Emma Aceng, flew the University flag high with prayers and dedication to God.
It is the first time Lira university is participatiing in the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) compettitons. The University will participate in all AUUS programs and activities including the Inter-University Games.
Lira and Gulu Universities are in Group D, with Makerere University Business School (MUBS), Muni and St. Lawrence universities.
