Lira University community has beendeeply saddened to hear about the untimely passing of Senior lecturer, Dr. Emmanuel Ogwok on Sunday (23rd November 2025), at Lacor Hospital.
Fr. Peter Panya who led the service emphasised the key themes focusing on the promise of eternal life and the idea that we are not separated from God’s love.
He emphasized hope in Jesus, especially for those who may not have known him, and the peace and comfort that comes from faith, reassuring the bereaved that God is a “refuge and strength” and is present in their pain, even in the “valley of the shadow of death”.
Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, Vice Chancellor, Lira University, said, “I am so sorry for the loss. Dr. Ogwok was an inspiring Biological Sciences lecturer and a wonderful mentor. The university will definitely miss him.”
Prof. Ogwal Okeng said Dr. Ogwok’s dedication and kindness have left a lasting impact on many students, including other staff. He was eulogising at the requiem mass at the Faculty of Education on 27th November 2025.

As one family, Prof. Ogwal Okeng said Lira University will work as a team to give the fallen comrade a decent burial.
Dr. Elisabeth Amongi, the Dean Education Faculty lauded Dr. Ogwok for working hard in the setting up of Biology Labs. He was teaching conservation biology, immunology, microbiology and mycology course units.
DVC(AA), Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum said, “On behalf of the entire Lira University staff, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences on the passing of Dr. Ogwok, the person who was championing the mounting of good Biological sciences programmes including PhDs.
Several mourners praised Dr. Ogwok saying his contributions to the academic and personal development of students were immense.
