Lira University Council Vice Chairperson, Ms Nellie Florence Okullo has noted that students are vital because they are the central focus of the University, driving its purpose of fostering individual growth, critical thinking, and future societal contributions.

Ms Okullo said that the university students are the primary stakeholders who, through active participation and taking ownership of their learning, receive the benefits of an educational environment. “Students do research to generate new knowledge to solve problems in society. We are obliged to provide ample, conducive atmosphere and service to them,” she observed.

Ms Okullo added, “I am happy there is a joint effort and team spirit being practised here to diligently serve the students and other stakeholders, the efforts being put in place to enhance the university visibility is being witnessed. All these together are geared towards achieving the goals and mission of the university.”

She was addressing the 3rd Meeting of the Students’ Welfare and Discipline Committee at Public Health Board Room on 3rd October 2025. Hon. Fredrick Dickens Odongo presided over the meeting.

Hon. Odongo, the Committee chairperson, said that the teaching and learning process should shape students into well-rounded individuals prepared for real-world challenges, contributing to their own and the institution’s success, and creating a positive ripple effect in their communities. 

On personal and cognitive development, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, Vice Chancellor, said that Lira University provides students with a crucial foundation for life, enhancing cognitive skills like critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.

Dean of Students, Ms. Emma Aceng, presented an elaborate report about students’ programmes and activities planned and implemented. Several other issues concerning students were discussed and resolved.

Members present were Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs, Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum, Mr. Hasahya Nathan Hagobi, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration and Finance, also University Bursar, Mr. Angela Geoffrey, the Academic Registrar, Ms. Lydia Amongi, Assistant University Secretary, Mr. Moses Kaahwa, Senior Hospital Administrator, Mr. Godfrey Kyobe(Guild President) and Ms. Pamela Adong (Vice Guild President).
