Dr. Samson Udho is a nurse-midwife, academic, and research leader with extensive experience in graduate education, research leadership, and academic quality assurance. He serves as a Senior Lecturer in Midwifery and Women’s Health at Lira University and currently holds the position of Acting Deputy Chief, Directorate of Graduate Training and Research, where he contributes to strengthening postgraduate training, research governance, and scholarly excellence within the university.
Dr. Udho holds a PhD in Nursing from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, a Master’s degree in Midwifery and Women’s Health, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Makerere University. His academic career reflects a strong commitment to advancing maternal, reproductive, and adolescent health through research, mentorship, and evidence-based scholarship.
An accomplished researcher, Dr. Udho has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in reputable international journals and actively contributes to the global scientific community as a manuscript reviewer for several academic journals. His expertise spans qualitative and quantitative research methods, implementation science, and health systems research, particularly in areas related to maternal health, adolescent health, and respectful maternity care.
Dr. Udho has also played a key role in strengthening research capacity and postgraduate scholarship. He has supervised numerous postgraduate students to completion, examined graduate theses, and mentored emerging researchers. In addition, he has successfully secured and co-led competitive research grants, supporting multi-country and multi-phase research initiatives focused on improving maternal and adolescent health outcomes.
Through his academic leadership, research productivity, and commitment to mentorship, Dr.Udho continues to contribute to the advancement of nursing and midwifery education, the strengthening of research systems, and the generation of evidence that informs policy and practice in Uganda and beyond.
