Duties and responsibilities of DICTS
ICT Infrastructure Management. This involues Install, configure, and maintain computer hardware (desktops, laptops, servers), Manage network infrastructure (LAN, Wi-Fi – eduroam, internet connectivity)
Systems Administration & Support. This involues managing institutional systems (e.g., student management systems like AIMS), Maintain servers, databases, and applications, perform system updates, patches, and upgrades and provide user account management (creation, access control, permissions)
User support and Help desk services. This provides technical support to staff, students, and departments, Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, Install and configure software applications and respond to ICT-related queries and incidents
Network and Internet services. Under here, we Configure and manage network devices (routers, switches, access points) throughout the campus, Monitor network traffic and performance, Ensure secure and stable internet access and Manage IP addressing and connectivity issues
Cybersecurity & Data protection. Under here, the ICT unit Implements ICT security guidelines, Protects systems from cyber threats (viruses, hacking, phishing), Monitors and manages firewalls and antivirus systems, Enforces password policies and access controls and Conduct security awareness training for users.
- ICT policy Development and Implementation. It Developes and enforces ICT policies and standards, Ensure compliance with national ICT regulations and institutional policies and provide ICT governance and strategic direction.
- Website & Digital Platforms Management. It Manages and updates the university website, Supports web hosting and domain services, ensure website functionality, security, and content updates and support online services (applications, portals, e-learning systems).
- ICT training & capacity building. Train staff and students in ICT skills, Conduct digital literacy programs, Support adoption of new technologies and systems and provide user manuals and guidelines
- Research & Innovation Support. Provide ICT support for research activitiee, Support data analysis tools and systems, Promote innovation and adoption of emerging technologies, Support e-learning platform that is thebee.lirauni.ac.ug
- Communication & Collaboration support. Support official communication systems (email, collaboration tools), Manage institutional communication platforms, Facilitate virtual meetings and digital collaboration
