Assoc. Prof. Judith Akello Abal

Associate Professor Judith Akello Abal is a Ugandan academic, researcher, and gender specialist currently serving as Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at Lira University. She holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Makerere University under the DAAD scholarship program and completed her Post-Doctoral Research at Technische Universität Dresden, Germany. She also holds a Master of Arts in Education and International Development from the University of London (Commonwealth Scholar), a Master of Business Administration from Makerere University, a Bachelor of Education, and a Diploma in Education (Business Education).

With over two decades of teaching, research, and academic leadership experience, Prof. Akello has served in various capacities including Senior Lecturer, Head of Department, Dean of Students, and Research Ethics Committee Member. Her teaching portfolio includes Gender in Business, Research Methodology, Public Finance, and Principles of Management. She has supervised numerous Master’s students across Business Administration and Public Health programs.

Her research focuses on gender, women’s economic empowerment, functional adult literacy, entrepreneurship, reproductive health, and socio-economic development in Northern Uganda. She has published extensively in peer-reviewed international journals and has secured competitive research grants from IDRC, Erasmus+, Horizon Europe (M-CARE), and other funding bodies.

She actively contributes to academic governance as a Senate Member and Research Ethics Committee member at Lira University and serves on several regional and international professional networks.
