Lira University Library and Information Services has developed strategies to advance its commitment and enhance the transformation effect. The Management continues to harness opportunities for identifying the various stakeholders that generate appropriate strategies for collaborative development.
The digital age compliance provides for technologically oriented avenues and promotion of ICT services as regards to the provision of accurate, balanced and timely information. Academic libraries are very fundamental in aiding teaching, learning, communication and research which must be exploited to benefit our esteemed information seekers.
We prioritize on issues of special importance that include ICT, e-library, copyright and academic freedom. Our staff exhibits a good sense of team work, interpersonal relations, stewardship and professional ethics. By so doing, we are destined to constantly interest our clients with varied resources and services that are technologically driven. Duties and responsibilities...
1. Providing Access to Academic and Research Information Resources
The Office of the University Library is responsible for acquiring, organizing, preserving, and providing access to relevant academic and research materials that support teaching, learning, innovation, and community engagement. These resources may include books, journals, electronic databases, theses, dissertations, newspapers, and digital learning materials for students, staff, and researchers.
2. Supporting Teaching, Learning, and Research Activities
The University Library plays a central role in supporting the academic mission of the University by facilitating effective teaching, independent learning, and scholarly research. The library provides reference services, research assistance, information literacy training, and access to both physical and electronic resources to enhance academic performance and knowledge creation.
3. Managing Digital Library and Information Systems
The office oversees the management and maintenance of digital library systems, institutional repositories, online databases, and electronic learning resources. It ensures that users can access information efficiently through modern information and communication technologies, remote access platforms, and automated library management systems.
4. Preserving and Organizing University Knowledge Resources
The University Library is responsible for cataloguing, classifying, archiving, and preserving academic and institutional information resources for future reference and research purposes. The office ensures proper management of library collections, rare documents, research publications, and institutional records in accordance with professional library standards and practices.
5. Promoting Information Literacy and User Support Services
The office provides user education and information literacy programs aimed at equipping students, staff, and researchers with skills in information searching, evaluation, referencing, academic writing, plagiarism prevention, and responsible use of information resources. The library also offers guidance and support services that promote effective utilization of available academic resources.
