The Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Science, Lira University was established on 1st July 2017. It is made up of two departments namely: Department of Computer Science and Information Technology, and the Department of Library and Information Science. The formation of the Faculty of Computing, Library and Information Science is based on the criteria of relatedness, compatibility and interdisciplinary capacity to form a viable Faculty.
The Faculty of Computing and Information Sciences at Lira University is a hub for technology education and innovation. It offers programs such as Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Information Technology, computer animation and library sciences, tailored to equip students with cutting-edge skills in programming, systems design, cybersecurity, and data analysis. The faculty emphasizes hands-on learning, leveraging partnerships with tech industries and research institutions to address local and national challenges through digital solutions. Its curriculum likely integrates practical projects, internships, and community-driven initiatives to foster problem-solving skills in areas like agricultural technology, healthcare IT, and smart infrastructure. Committed to advancing Uganda’s digital transformation, the faculty also promotes research in emerging fields like AI, IoT, and ICT for development.
