Emmanuel Ekung

Emmanuel Ekung is a Certified Registered Midwife from Uganda and an emerging scholar in Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal, and Newborn Health (SRMNH). He currently serves as a Teaching Assistant at the Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery, Lira University, where he contributes to the education and mentorship of future midwives while actively supporting academic and research initiatives.

He holds a Master of Midwifery Science (MMS) from Lira University and a Bachelor of Science in Midwifery from Gulu University. His training has built a strong foundation in maternal and newborn health, midwifery education, and evidence-based practice, positioning him at the intersection of clinical care, academia, and research.

Emmanuel is driven by a deep commitment to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes, particularly in resource-limited settings. His research focuses on advancing equitable access to SRMNH services, with a strong interest in understanding the social and health systems determinants that shape inequalities in Uganda and across the globe. His work aligns closely with the global agenda of achieving universal access to quality SRMNH services and health for all.

Currently, Emmanuel is pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Nursing Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, where he is further strengthening his research capacity and academic leadership. He is passionate about building collaborative networks and communities of practice that foster innovation, knowledge exchange, and impactful research.

Through his work in teaching, research, and professional engagement, Emmanuel is committed to generating evidence that informs policy, strengthens health systems, and improves the health and well-being of women, families, and communities worldwide. His interests include the midwife-led care model and health systems strengthening, Sexual, Reproductive, Maternal and Newborn Health (SRMNH), Health equity and access to care, Maternal and newborn outcomes in low-resource settings, Research, education, and capacity building
