Lira University has recruited another batch of 57 teaching and non-teaching staff including professors and Medical doctors in December 2020.
While addressing an induction and orientation workshop of the newly appointed staff at the university Teaching Hospital Grounds on 14th December 2020, Vice Chancellor, Professor Jasper Ogwal Okeng noted that the recruits were drawn from across the country.
“The new staff were selected from over 1,500 applicants who participated in the interviews. We believe these are qualified people with proven integrity and experience added to the family of the university,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng said.
He adds, “we made a careful and sensible selection of the new team. We picked the best out of the best.”
The VC revealed that the 5-year-old public university is developing faster with attractive courses, attracting students from across the country. He added that the university has a vibrant and complex teaching hospital that helps in the teaching and training of health students and treating sick members of the community.
He urged members of the community in this region to take advantage of this vibrant public university in skilling them. He added that the university is not a political entity but an institution to generate knowledgeable and skillful personnel.
Prof. Ogwal advised staff never to think of working alone but rather embrace team spirit for the university to achieve its objectives and mission. “Defend your high-flying academic papers by effectively and efficiently doing the real job appointed to,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng advises.
He advised staff to always desist from forming cliques or being selfish, but rather share information or skills with colleagues.
The VC revealed that big chunks of funds is being spent on infrastructure development. “The university started from scratch but we are progressing at a steady speed,” he noted.
The University Secretary, Augustine Oyang Atubo revealed that 25 women were among the new staff appointed, an indication of equal opportunities observance by the university authority. He advised staff to always ensure good time management for effective and efficient service delivery.
He urged the staff to keep abreast with the university policies that guide implementation of planned programmes and activities.
In attendance were University Academic Registrar, Librarian, Deans of Faculties, Heads of Department, Senior Lecturers and other staff.
