The Chairperson Lira University 2nd Council, Assoc. Prof. Joel Okullo Odom has praised the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng for being exemplary and committed in steering the university in a positive direction.

“Prof. Ogwal Okeng is a man of high integrity, observes transparency and accountability, the reason he managed to start this university,” Prof. Okullo Odom asserts. He was making a speech at the last Council meeting on 25th April 2024. The 3rd Council has been formed and will be sworn in office on 30th April 2024.

Prof. Okullo Odom lauded members of the outgoing council and technical staff for the team spirit exhibited during the 4-year period that ended in April 2024. “The journey has been a journey of several consultations, team work, partnerships,” he said adding the 2nd Council has moved from strength to strength during the period.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogwal Okeng narrated how a few dedicated staff started the university under a tree shed. “Assoc. Prof. Lujino Ogwal was a strong man, committed and dedicated to see the university kicks off very fast,” Ogwal Okeng explains.

The Vice Chancellor commended the outgoing council members for devoting their time in handling the university issues and passing relevant policies now guiding the management of the institution.

The Council resolved that 20acres of land be given to the Ministry of Health for establishment of Blood Bank and other health service facilities. They added that the University Management should continue following up the process of reclaiming the 201 acres of land that extends to Balla subcounty, Kole district.
