Mountains of The Moon University to collaborate with Lira University in projects development, implementation

Mountains of The Moon University has hatched collaboration drive with Lira University in a bid to strengthen the co-existence of these young institutions for purposes of development.

The two universities resolved to share information, experiences and work together in grant and research writing to attract funding from across the world.

Mountains of The Moon University Council, headed by its Chairperson, Eng. Dr. Ben Manyindo, had a benchmarking meeting with its counterpart, Lira University, at Public Health Board Room on 3rd May 2023.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng welcomed the team and noted that LU puts more emphasis on research and innovations as a means to achieve its mission and vision. He revealed that LU has continued to develop faster as a result of team work spirit amongst the technical staff and the University Council.

Prof. Ogwal Okeng noted that ICT directorate is the hub of implementation of all academic and non-academic programmes at the university, which needs strengthening and staffing. “We are able to conduct online lectures and do many things on-line due to the availability of internet services and other IT equipment,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng says.

The VC added that Lira University has never relaxed on quality assurance in all its activities including academics. He noted that Lira University Teaching Hospital is a good facility for training health service students and treating patients, a service also enjoyed by the community in the region.

Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Lira University revealed that motivation of staff and students to give more attention to research and innovations including writing for grants. “This is the best move to attract financial support from international and local institutions, to fund projects in our university,” Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum asserts.

The Acting University Secretary, Mr. Tom Atim said that Lira University Council has passed several goo policies to help and management in making decisions and implementation of development programmes.

Atim Tom named several development projects including a multi-billion Education Block so far achieved by the young university saying they are always focused and priorities spending billions of money on infrastructure projects of the University.

Eng. Dr. Ben Manyindo, the Council Chair of Mountains of The Moon University observed that they decided to learn from Lira University’s success stories and challenges to help them move forward in terms of development.

Manyindo noted that they were impressed by the way Lira University is handling areas of research, staff development, building projects, among others. The Team toured several projects currently being implemented by Lira University.
