Welcome to the Office of the Vice Chancellor. This Office provides overall academic, administrative, and strategic leadership to the University to ensure effective governance, efficient utilization of human and financial resources, and compliance with the law, University policies, regulations, and the institutional Strategic Plan. The Vice Chancellor serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the University and is responsible for guiding the institution towards the achievement of its mission, vision, and core objectives.
In accordance with Section 31 of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, 2001 (as amended), the Vice Chancellor oversees the academic, administrative, and financial operations of the University. In the absence of the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor presides over official University ceremonies, including graduation functions, and confers degrees, diplomas, and other academic distinctions on behalf of the institution.
The Vice Chancellor is accountable to the University Council through the Chairperson of Council. As the head of the University Management Team, the Vice Chancellor directly supervises senior officers of the University including the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration, University Secretary, Academic Registrar, University Librarian, Dean of Students, Director of Internal Audit, and Religious Leaders as stipulated in the Constitution and University governance framework.
Additionally, the Vice Chancellor provides oversight and coordination to other academic and administrative units of the University, including the University Bursar, Deans of Faculties and Schools, as well as Directors of Institutes, Colleges, and other academic entities.
Duties and responsibilities...
1. Providing Strategic Leadership and Management
The Vice Chancellor’s Office is responsible for providing overall leadership and strategic direction to the university. It ensures that the institution operates in line with its vision, mission, goals, and national higher education policies. The office coordinates university activities, oversees implementation of strategic plans, and ensures that all departments work toward achieving academic excellence, innovation, and institutional growth.
2. Supervising Academic and Administrative Operations
The office oversees both academic and administrative functions of the university to ensure efficiency and quality service delivery. This includes monitoring teaching, research, examinations, student affairs, human resource management, and institutional governance. The Vice Chancellor’s Office also ensures that university policies, regulations, and procedures are properly implemented across all faculties, schools, and administrative units.
3. Promoting Research, Innovation, and Partnerships
The office supports and promotes research, innovation, and community engagement. The office works to establish collaborations and partnerships with government agencies, development partners, industries, and international institutions to enhance research opportunities, funding, and academic exchange programs. It also encourages knowledge creation and dissemination for national and societal development.
4. Financial Oversight and Resource Mobilization
The Vice Chancellor’s Office plays a major role in overseeing the university’s financial management and resource utilization. It ensures accountability, transparency, and proper allocation of resources in accordance with public financial regulations and university policies. The office also spearheads resource mobilization initiatives such as grants, partnerships, donations, and income-generating projects to support institutional sustainability and development.
5. Representing the University and Maintaining Stakeholder Relations
The Vice Chancellor’s Office serves as the official representative of the university in both national and international engagements. The office maintains relationships with stakeholders including government ministries, regulatory bodies, alumni, students, staff, development partners, and the general public. It also handles official communication, promotes the university’s image and reputation, and ensures that the institution remains accountable to the public and relevant authorities.
