The Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology (Mental Counselling Focus) at Lira University is a postgraduate professional programme designed to develop highly skilled, ethical, and culturally responsive mental health counsellors. The programme responds to the growing demand for mental health and psychosocial support services in Uganda and the wider East African region, particularly in post-conflict, humanitarian, institutional, and community settings.
The programme integrates theoretical foundations, evidence-based counselling and psychotherapy approaches, clinical practice, and research, with strong emphasis on mental wellness, prevention, intervention, and rehabilitation.
Academic Qualifications (Minimum Requirements)
An applicant must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university in any of the following or related disciplines:-
Counselling Psychology, Psychology, Community, Psychology and Psychotherapy
Social Work and Social Administration, Community Development, Education (with counselling or psychology background), Nursing or Mental Health Nursing, Public Health (with psychosocial or mental health focus) or any Other relevant behavioural or social science disciplines (subject to approval)
