The Lira University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jasper Ogwal Okeng has encouraged staff to embark on serious research drive to discover new knowledge and attract funding.
While addressing a function of handover of office to the Lira University Research Ethics Committee (LUREC) on Wednesday (2nd June 2022), Prof. Dr. Ogwal Okeng noted that research initiative is the basis of new knowledge and development of Universities.
The Vice Chancellor revealed that LUREC Team will ensure research ethics are followed in the process of producing quality research acceptable globally.
Prof. Dr. Ogwal Okeng advised researchers to avoid copying other people’s work as plagiarism can be detected using specialised software. He added that through research initiatives, universities can access substantial funding from institutions across the world to support development.
Dr. Odongo Pancras Odull, the chairperson LUREC noted that universities are centres and propagators of new knowledge. He added that research ethics is paramount in quality assurance.
Dr Odongo noted that LUREC will ensure that research done is not harmful to participants, guides and protects the researchers and the community.
LUREC is composed of 14 members including 2 representatives from the community. The Office space was refurbished and furnished using the funding from the Sexual Reproductive Health Research Enhancement Project.
