The Resident City Commissioner, Lira City, Mr. Lawrence Egole has commended Lira University Management Team for earmarking five days for orientation of the newly admitted students into the university.
Mr Egole said that beginning university brings excitement, responsibility, and challenges to students that require clear guidance to navigate successfully. He was addressing fresh students at EMBA Hall on 13th August 2026.

A total of 3,220 students have been admitted this academic year (2026/2027), up from 2,345 students in 2025/2026 academic year. To students, Mr. Egole said, whether you want to manage your time, build strong study habits, or adapt to a new environment, knowing the right strategies from day one makes all the difference. “Your ambitions should not be just to sit at a table now but to create a bigger table in future when you graduate,” he advised.
The RCC encouraged students to participate in student politics, governance, or decision-making. “It is a fun and unique way to contribute something to your campus and you will learn about people. By the time you will graduate, ensure you leave this university better than the current state,” he said.
He advised students to be disciplined and focused, avoiding disruptive behaviors and practices that may hamper their studies.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng advised students to look out for each other during the academic endeavors. “As students, you are in this game together, help each other study, answer questions, share notes when needed. But don’t do people’s coursework/assignments for them,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng advised.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng noted that today, education has changed to job creation, from job seeking. “Your task now is using the available land or other factors to create more jobs, “he said.

Prof. Ogwal Okeng cautioned students not to be driven by other students’ decisions or choices. “Think twice, decide the best for your life, health and future. Know where your coming from and where you want to end up or be,” the VC adds.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng heartened students to choose a hobby that keeps them active. “Avoid being idle and disorderly, join intramurals, varsity sports, daily walks, the gym, fitness classes, etc. And it doesn’t need to take up much time, just enough to keep you active and fresh during lectures, “he said.
He revealed that more academic programmes and faculties will be created for sustained increment of students’ enrolment annually.

The Acting University Secretary, Mr. Atim Tom encouraged students to fulfil their financial and other obligations adding the University Management is set to provide effective and efficient service delivery and cater for their welfare in a timely manner.
Mr. Atim advised students to work hard with a focus of leaving something positive behind on campus. “Remember success is realised with hard work. It may be painful or bitter now but the fruits will be very sweet in future,” Mr. Atim guided, adding, “do not be the same person when you start and when you graduate.”
Mr. Atim said, “Behind every high achiever is a story of hard work and countless study sessions. Be the author of your success.”
