Stanbic Bank donates 500 Tree plant seedlings to Lira University

The Stanbic Bank has donated 500 tree seedlings to Lira University Main Campus, a move for the university to play a role in restoration and protection of forests for a better climate.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng launched the project by planting 2 seedlings at the University’s gazetted land for trees. The seedlings were delivered to the university on 9th May 2023

Samuel Fredrick Mwogeza, Stanbic Bank Official said that the donation was affirming the Bank’s commitment to climate change action of tree planting.

He added that Stanbic Bank has been purchasing tree seedlings which are then distributed to schools to sensitise students on environment conservations.

Prof. Ogwal Okeng lauded Stanbic Bank for the initiative that will address the University’s environmental concerns, adding that the afforestation project will help in handling climate and beautify the university vicinity.

“With the support from our partner, Stanbic Bank, we are contributing to the cause, responding to climate change issues,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng notes.

 Lira University Main Campus has 621 acres of land, part of it earmarked for trees, with Amolatar Campus having 344 acres, yet to be planned.

Some of the key officers present at the brief ceremony were Mr Oyang Atubo Augustine, Lira University Secretary and Ms Sunny, Manager Stanbic Bank, Lira branch.
