On May 21–23, 2025, the ADVANCE project team Lira University joined other members of the Consortium for their very first face-to-face training workshop at the University of Sannio in Benevento, Italy!
The training aimed to:
- Create a shared understanding of service-learning and experiential learning methodologies applied to curriculum design in the field of Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship (SIE); and
- Develop a common approach to quality assurance for the ADVANCE programme — a competence-based postgraduate diploma in SIE.
The workshop focused on key topics in Social Innovation and Entrepreneurship, including:
- Defining the competence profile of a social entrepreneur in the East African context, based on extensive desk research, stakeholder surveys, and consultation meetings with key actors in the SIE ecosystem in Uganda and Tanzania
- Exploring experiential teaching and learning methods for building SIE competences
- Discussing curriculum design and development strategies suitable for a competence-based study programme
- Reviewing quality assurance practices from Europe and East Africa to shape a strong QA system for the upcoming postgraduate programme in SIE
- Delving into AI technologies that could support SIE education and training in the East African context
Beyond the sessions, it was an inspiring opportunity to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and strengthen collaboration across regions.
This workshop marked a major milestone in our journey – and we’re excited to keep advancing together!
