A team of 8 Heart surgeons from the Uganda Heart Institute, Mulago National Referral Hospital, Kampala, assessed 240 heart (cardiac) patients from Lango Subregion on Friday, 24th June 2022.
The Heart surgeons were hosted at Lira University Teaching Hospital and offered free cardiac assessment/testing services to old and new heart patients.
The surgeons started attending to the patients as early as 8.00am, where several heart related diseases were handled. The Management of Lira University Teaching Hospital had invited heart patients from all districts in Lango sub-region and the neighbourhood to take advantage of this free services and come to the facility on Friday.
Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jasper Ogwal Okeng notes that most patients suffering from heart related diseases cannot afford to travel to Kampala to access better services, the reason they (Lira University Management) invited the doctors to camp at the University Teaching Hospital.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng reveals that more medical camps of specialised doctors will be organised on regular basis so that residents from the sub region are able to access treatment. “We are planning for more medical teams to come and handle specialised treatment of ailments like cancer screening, Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT), physiotherapy services, among others. We shall keep the general public informed in case such doctors are set to be here,” Dr. Ogwal Okeng asserts.
