Amolatar District gives 400acres of land to Lira University

Residents of Amolatar District have donated 400acres of land to Lira University to open its branch there.

The Communities of Alemere Bung and Agwingiri subcounty have given 200 acres of land each, totalling to 400 acres, to Lira University in separate colourful ceremonies.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, in a joyous mood, received the lands in two separate functions, where the community members danced, ululated and chanted, with requests for the university to establish Faculty of Agriculture and Fisheries in the district.

Prof. Dr. Ogwang Okeng was happy to receive the lands on behalf of Lira University. He promised the University will put the donated land in good use by establishing its branch and develop the area.

Ogwal Okeng noted that being a Government institution, Lira University plans to open its branches in all districts of Lango sub-region and beyond. He added that the university will create cheap and easy access to higher education, good market for local commodities, labour and others for the people of Amolatar District.

Ogwal Okeng noted that Amolatar is at the centre of Uganda, with beautiful environment, water bodies capable of being a tourist area, hence attracting development projects. Being a flat land and surrounded by lakes Kyoga and Kwania,  Ogwal Okeng said that Amolatar deserves an Airfield.

They also donated an office for the university staff to use as they prepare to initiate the constructions and other developments at the site.

Amolatar LC5 Chairperson, Geoffrey Ocen welcomed Lira University in the district, urging residents to take advantage of the institution to educate their children. He praised the people of Amolatar for preserving community lands for development use.

Deputy Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum revealed that Lira University has the capacity to use both lands and a Master Plan for the land use will be drawn soon.

Okaka Opio Dokotum urged residents of Alemere and Agwingiri to add more land, if possible, as Lira University plans to establish one or more faculties so that several academic programmes are taught here.

The University team led by Prof. Dr. Ogwal Okeng comprised of Deputy Vice Chancellor, Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum, Dean of Students, Emma Okite, Senior Assistant Secretary, Lydia Amongi, Senior Communications Officer, Patrick Opio, Acting Senior Legal Officer, Evans Olwoc and others.
