The 1st Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Hon. Janet Museveni has lauded Lira University for its effective leadership and commitment which has ensured a faster development rate.
She was addressing the congregation at the 2nd Graduation Ceremony held the university campus on Friday, 9th April, 2021. The university conferred degrees to 310 graduands.
Mrs Janet Museveni commended local leaders and other stakeholders for supporting the development in the university. She implored the university management and staff to put more efforts in science disciplines to avoid producing job seekers.
The Minister added that new universities across the country are showing great signs of innovations. “We are happy with Lira University for not letting down NRM Government through effective implementation of government programmes, “Janet says. She was the Guest of Hounour at the ceremony.
The Graduates picked their academic transcripts immediately after the end of the ceremony.
The University Chancellor, Hon. Justice Dr. Benjamin Odoki hailed Lira University for its positive impact on the communities in the greater north and beyond through its good academic programmes and clinical services from Teaching Hospital.
He lauded Ministries of Education and Sports and Health for supporting the institution now being a model
University. “The university is currently seriously engaged in teaching, research, innovations and community services, we are ready to climb higher and higher everyday” Odoki reveals.
The University’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng praised teaching and non-teaching staff saying they are committed with a zeal to achieve the mission and objectives of the university.
He noted that the graduates were well prepared to serve diligently in the community. “We are happy with parents, guardians and the community for trusting us with their children to train,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng said.
The VC revealed that there is a dire need to provide accommodation facilities at the university for health workers of the Teaching Hospital as their services are required 24/7. He hails President Museveni for fulfilling his shs100 million pledge towards supporting staff SAACCO.
Several dignitaries from across the country attended the ceremony.
Lira University, a public educational institution created in 2015, is located in Ayere cell, Barapwo Ward, Lira City West Division, Lira City. The university covers a total area of 621 acres (251.3 hectares) of land.
