The Lira University Council, the top body that makes decisions for implementation, has urged staff and other stakeholders to join hands in the development of the institution.
Assoc. Prof. Joel Okullo Odom, the University Council Chairperson, noted that students’ leadership should work together with the University management to steer the University in a positive direction. He was chairing the 7th Meeting of the 2nd Council held at Public Health Board Room on 23rd June 2023.
“For this University to make strides in achieving its vision and mission, the academic and non-academic staff must work together. Council is the Supreme organ that makes policies and decisions which are implemented by the technical staff,” Prof. Okullo Odom observes.
Dr Okullo Odom decried the inadequate funding from Central government negatively impacting on the infrastructure development. “As leaders of this University, we must keep following pledges and knocking doors for other sources to beef up what we get from the Government,” he asserts.
Members of the University Council deliberated and resolved on many development and pertinent issues including President Museveni’s pledge to tarmac all internal and external roads of the University and passing ICT Policy.
The Council Members present were Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng, Timothy Ssejoba Musoke, Assoc. Prof. Lonjino Mulo Ogwal, Dr John Ricky Akeny, Bosco Ogwang Edola, Timothy Ronald Namboga, Nelson Wazeba, and David Dickson Ogwal.
Others are Caroline Nabasire Kambugo, Dr Jimmy Francis Obonyo, Acen Sara Peace, Tamali Acen Okao and the University Secretary, Augustine Oyang Atubo.
