Lira University DVC, Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum exits, praised for his contribution

Lira University’s Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum has exited the service effective 1st July 2026.

In a letter written by the Acting University Secretary, Mr. Tom Atim, on 15th July 2026, Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum’s first contract period was from 1st July 2016 to 30th June 2021. The second and last contract was from 1st July 2021 to 30th June 2026. Meaning his two terms contracts expired on 30th June 2026.

The letter was addressed to the University academic and administrative staff and copied to the University Chancellor, Chairperson and members of the Council, Vice Chancellor and Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum.

 Mr. Atim said following the University Management request for legal guidance on the matter, the Attorney General, in an advisory communication dated 10th July, 2026, confirmed that Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum has fully and lawfully completed his permitted tenure under Section 32(2) of the Universities and Other Tertiary Institutions Act, Cap. 262.

On behalf of the entire Lira University community, Mr. Atim said, “I wish to extend our heartfelt gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Okaka Opio Dokotum for his ten years of distinguished service, intellectual leadership, and steadfast commitment to the growth and development of this institution. We wish him the absolute best in his future academic and professional pursuits.”
