Lira University lecturers participated in the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE-Uganda) Mentors and Focal Persons Training held at Colline Hotel, Mukono on 27-28 October 2026.
Lira University has reaffirmed its commitment to student wellbeing, inclusive education, and leadership development through effective participation in the program implementation.
Inclusive education, according to FAWE Uganda, refers to breaking down social, economic, gender, and physical barriers so that marginalized and vulnerable learners, especially girls, children with disabilities, child mothers, and refugee youth can access, stay in, and complete quality education.
The six-member delegation was led by Dr. Epila Jackie, FAWE Uganda Focal Person at Lira University, alongside Ms. Nabasirye Carol (Faculty of Nursing and Midwifery), Mr. Kwizera Gad (Faculty of Education), Mr. Ogor Emmanuel (Faculty of Management Sciences), Dr. Nakaziba Rebecca (Faculty of Medicine), and Mr. Opio Innocent (Faculty of Public Health).
The training addressed mentorship and onboarding, student mental health and wellbeing, inclusive support for students with disabilities and special needs, refugee student support, safeguarding, and reporting tools.
Facilitators included Eng. Stephen Langa, Dr. Irene Mwenyango, Dr. Patrick Ojok, Ms. Sandra Nanyunja, Gloria Auma, and Rebecca Byamukama. Their sessions emphasised the importance of intentional mentorship in nurturing confidence, leadership, academic excellence, personal development, gender empowerment, and social responsibility.
