Members of Parliament on Parliament Committee of Education and Sports have commended the Management of Lira University for being organised and ensuring effective and timely spending of public funds on infrastructure development projects.

The MPs who are on facts finding mission in Lango subregion noted that although Lira University receives meagre funding from Central Government, much has been achieved. They said that there is a dire need for Parliament to appropriate more funds to Lira University, given the fact that this young University never received Seed Grants as a start-up funding, like other public universities.

The MPs were; Hon. Lukwang Philips Ilwol, Hon. Timuziga, Hon. Sarah Aguti Nyakori, Hon. Makhola Mararet, Hon. Janet Okori and Hon. Acon Julius.

Lira University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Jasper Ogwal Okeng lauded the MPs for visiting the institution. He named some of the core challenges facing the University as lack of funds for tarmacking internal roads, completing administration block and building library and faculty structures, among others.

Below attached is the excerpt of the Lira University’s status report presented by the VC.
