Vice Chancellor of Lira University, Prof. Dr.Jasper Ogwal Okeng has cautioned students against living a risky lifestyle at the expense of their health and the future.
“At the university, you have freedom…..but take care, live a purposeful life, be committed, make friends with positive colleagues and neighbours and avoid time wasters so that you walk out of this great university happy at the end of the course,” Prof. Ogwal Okeng advises new students during their orientation at EMBA Hall on 15th August 2024.
The VC added, “We are so proud of you for starting university life. Chasing your dreams has been an honour, and we are so beyond proud to see you join Lira University. The time and dedication you have put into getting here has been an inspiration. The Beacon Team is so proud of you, you are all welcomed to this young and steadfast growing university.”
Prof. Ogwal Okeng noted that Lira University produces globally competitive products in the job market. He added that some committed students have earned millions of shillings in research and innovations grant awards nationally and globally.
He noted, where your energy and excitement enrich our vibrant campus life, we look forward to learning, exploring, and growing together.

As you experience our campus and all it has to offer, we hope you will feel the strong sense of community that is at our core. “Avoid drunkenness and reckless sex habits, theft and hooliganism…..all leading to a desolate dark future,” he says.

The University Secretary, Mr. Oyang Atubo Augustine noted that Lira University prides of vast land of 621 acres, available for infrastructural development projects. He advised students to be vigilant and security conscious while at the campus.
Mr. Oyang Atubo says, we should work collaboratively to foster a campus culture that is compassionate, inclusive, supportive, and safe. This is a place where we celebrate our differences, and learn from the variety of perspectives represented in our vibrant community.
Atubo added that by honouring and respecting each other, we create a living and learning environment where we can all pursue our dreams and reach our highest potential.

This milestone is just a stepping stone for more successes and achievements to come your way. You have already proved that nothing can stand on your way your when it come to a accomplishing your dreams. Stay focused and you can achieve anything, be bold, be courageous, be your best. As you make your way in to the World, never lose sight of the things that matter most.

Lira University is an amazing institution with so much to offer. Take time to explore and embrace the rich opportunities presented to you. From performances, lectures, sports, innovation, research, there is something here for everyone.
Get involved and stay healthy, join a club or organization, be an entrepreneur and start something new, get enough sleep, and take time to get to know your neighbours.
Expect respect, stand up for what you believe in, consider and learn from the diverse perspectives of others, and redirect or report uncivil and other inappropriate behaviour. Keep healthy and guard your Mental Health, avoid risky sexual behaviours that can expose you in to contracting HIV/AID, ABSTINANCE IS THE BEST, TRUE LOVE WAITS. Remember that Uganda is heading in to a zero HIV country by 2030. To the boy child remember that the girl child is running at a very supersonic speed, I urge you to do the same.
Give back to your community – volunteer, share your time and talents with others on campus. This all round up into what we call the Beacon experience, and it embodies what is expected of you as citizens of this country.
The Dean of Students office is committed to helping you do all of this and more, we are also here for you if you encounter some unexpected obstacles along the way. It’s our job to help you to seize, reflect upon and integrate your diverse campus experiences–weaving them into the overall fabric of your education.
