PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSIONER LAUDS LIRA UNIVERSITY FOR BEING A MODEL

The Commissioner, Ministry of Public Service, Fred Bob Hifuna has revealed that President Yoweri Museveni is interested in seeing Lira University grow at a faster rate.
While addressing senior staff of Lira University recently, Commissioner Hifuna noted that the Country’s top office(President) is impressed by the university’s good performance rate and Teaching Hospital that helps in imparting practical skills to health students and treating patients from the general public.
The Commissioner urged staff to jointly work as a team and support top management to achieve the university’s strategic targets and goals. He advised the university management to recruit competent academic and non-teaching staff for effective and efficient service delivery.
He also advised that since the university’s core business is teaching, it is imperative for academic staff to take 70 % of the total staff establishment. He advised that relevant academic programmes be accredited and offered here to attract students from across the country and outside Uganda.
Vice Chancellor, Professor Jasper Ogwal Okeng lauded President Museveni, Ministries of Health, Education & Sports and Public Service for taking keen interests in supporting Lira University. He revealed that the staff and University Council are working as one family in developing the young institution into its fullest capacity.
Prof. Ogwal Okeng added that Lira University has attracted development partners from within and outside Uganda because of its good record in transparency and accountability. “We started from a tree shed office, but we shall reach there, being among the leading institutions in Uganda, Africa and globally,” the Vice Chancellor asserts.
Deputy Vice Chancellor, Associate Professor Okaka Opio Dokotum, University Secretary, Augustine Oyang Atubo, Dean of Students, Emma Aceng, University Bursar, Mr Hassan, Faculty Deans, Heads of Departments and Units attended the meeting.
Lira University, a public educational institution created in 2015, is located in Ayere cell, Barapwo Ward, Lira City West Division, Lira City. The university covers a total area of 621 acres (251.3 hectares) of land.
